OceanCare

For a healthy living ocean

#oceancare

We are committed to protecting the oceans and marine animals.

What drives OceanCare

A healthy and resilient ocean is the foundation of all life on our planet. The international marine conservation organisation OceanCare, headquartered in Switzerland, has been advocating for the protection of the ocean and their inhabitants since 1989, holding UN special advisor on marine issues. OceanCare has been raising its voice on behalf of marine life since 1989. The international marine conservation organisation, based in Switzerland, holds Special Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC and contributes to Agenda 2030 and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

What OceanCare has going on in 2026

2026 is an important year for marine conservation. With the entry into force of the High Seas Treaty, for the first time, there is a possibility to protect marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction – which cover more than two-thirds of world’s ocean. OceanCare is committed to ensuring that political promises translate into real conservation measures.

At the same time, the organisation is actively working to stop the plastic wave – both internationally and in Switzerland – and gives the ocean a strong voice in political processes through science-based advocacy. A particular focus lies on the Mediterranean, where OceanCareadvocates for a general reduction of underwater noise and for effective measures to protect endangered whales from deadly ship strikes.
